Frederick Middle School Spaghetti Dinner Challenge Has Been Met! - Respect!
Mr. Biggs and Coach Roady aka Resputia and Cami met the challenge of the annual FMS Spaghetti Dinner.
FMS Principal and Coach agreed to cheer at a basketball game if students raised $6000 at the annual FMS Spaghetti dinner - and they did! Videos of this are available at FMS from the Cheerleaders for $10.

Frederick Middle School Principal and Coach Dance?????! - Innovation?!
Pictured are Principal of Frederick Middle School, Mr. Randy Biggs, and 7th grade coach and Geography teacher, Mr. Charles Roady with the Frederick Middle School cheerleaders.  The two men are learning cheers and dances from the cheerleaders in preparation for their upcoming halftime performance during the middle school basketball game versus Hobart on Thursday, January 28th.


Frederick Middle School Limeades for Learning! - Cooperation!
Frederick Middle School recently teamed up with Sonic and donorschoose.org to take part in Sonic's Limeades for Learning Campaign.  FMS had 6 grants fully funded and 1 partially funded through Limeades for Learning. The monetary value of donations is a grand total of $4419.45.  The items funded are high interest reading books for classrooms, a class set of Hamlet (Shakespeare mad easy), Ipod touch and sound dock station, games for reading and comprehension skills, a large carpet, and a digital camera. Mrs. Nolan still has one grant that is available for donations.  Those wanting to donate to this grant can visit www.donorschoose.org to find Mrs. Nolan's project.

Frederick Middle School Music Department is "Second to None"! - Excellence!
The Frederick Public Schools Music Department proves once again that it is Second to None. The musical Beauty and the Beast was an excellent performance by the 6th, 7th and 8th grade Choir classes. From the costumes to the singing the production was very entertaining. The Choir Director Carisa Schreiner with the assistance of Band Director Ann Clayton did a wonderful job of producing a quality show that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. A MUST SEE show. Second to None.

Frederick Middle School Free Breakfast! - Innovation!
Frederick Middle School is serving a Free Breakfast to each of the students.Studies show that children who eat breakfast do better in school and that eating a good breakfast sets the tone for the rest of the day. Students who skip breakfast are likely to become tired when their brain and body run low on fuel. A very large majority of the Middle School student population has an athletic class first hour, so providing a nutritious breakfast after their work-out will help them concentrate better in the classroom.The Frederick Public School administration is devoted to providing the best education they can to each of the students.Providing this service is one way to give students the energy needed to face the challenges of the school day.

Ms. Kidd's classes are setting up a mock grocery store.  Students are planning meals and making grocery lists in order to enact their grocery shopping experience.  This integrated lesson demonstrates to students the importance of the information they are learning in many subject areas they are studying at Frederick Middle School.

Frederick Middle School 6th Grade Orientation! - Communication!
The Frederick Middle School hosted a 6th Grade Orientation for students and parents.  This opportunity, is to let the 6th grade students come to school and practice going to each of their classes and learn to open their lockers, so that they have a successful first day of Middle School. Frederick Middle School Cheerleaders at Camp - Sportsmanship!
FMS cheerleaders attended the UCA Cheer Camp in OU June 9-12th. The girls learned new sideline chants for football and basketball, cheers, and an extreme routine - participating in stunt classes to learn proper spotting techniques, partner stunt progressions, and timing skills. Each day the squad was evaluated on the material they learned. The sideline chant evaluation earned them an excellent ribbon. Performing a cheer incorporating tumbling and partner stunts, earning an excellent ribbon.  The game day evaluation receiving an excellent for the extreme routine and a superior for the game day chants.  On the final day the girls were evaluated on their cheer and extreme routine, receiving superior ribbons for both.

Teachers participated in the strategies they will use in their classrooms. Instructors presented many methods teachers can use in the classrooms. Time was given for teachers to demonstrate strategies they learned during the training.

Scholarship Information
The Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program recognizes and rewards young volunteers (ages 6-18) who help make their communities a better place. The young person's actions must be described in detail and should document efforts that are above and beyond what is normally expected of a child his/her age. Volunteer efforts should have made a positive impact on others and occurred in the last 12 months. The activity cannot be performed solely to benefit a family member. Winners are selected based on the project chosen, the benefits of the project and the actual outcome of the project. Applicants must not have graduated high school as of March 15, 2009. More than 2000 store level winners are expected to receive a $50 Kohl's Gift Card. More than 190 regional winners are expected to be awarded $1000 scholarship toward their post-secondary education. Ten national winners will receive $5000 scholarships and Kohl's will donate $1000 to a nonprofit organization on their behalf. Visit Kohl's Kids to nominate a deserving young person. Entry deadline is March 15, 2009. Additional information can be obtained from Mrs. Hester at the Frederick High School office.
